The 300 block of 17th Street, between Franklin and Webster
(and surrounding streets) is the center of Oakland's retail shopping/boutique
shopping haven. A tree-lined block of small shops,
women's fashion, clothing, bargains, food, personal services,
and designer treasures await the visitor.
Unlike sterile, fabricated shopping malls, 17th Street offers ambiance seasoned by the efforts of generations of entrepreneurs. The buildings are older. There are no chrome facades or mosaic sidewalks. This is an authentic urban shopping niche that rivals the best of San Francisco's Fillmore Shopping District and is reminiscent of SOHO or the Garment District in New York. Clothing, from custom designed and tailored to resale/consignment, everything from designer one-of-a-kinds to pop fashion for young women (and the young at heart) who want to be seen. Five eateries on one block attract a lively business crowd during the week from mid-morning until well into the evening. Whether you are looking for just coffee and donuts, simple sandwich fare, or authentic Asian cuisines, SOBO offers choice, quality, and affordability. You will never overpay for a meal on 17th Street. Diners depart satisfied and looking forward to their next visit. Come visit Oakland's authentic downtown retail shopping area. Shop, eat, browse. Get to know the owners of each exclusive shop. Bring your friends. Everyone is welcome! Merchants! Help us expand our connectivity with the City of Oakland. Help us build our Merchant Association by registering as a member. Yearly dues, only $50. |
